Jerusalem

Dear Friends in Christ,

This week, I read about a 12th century King of Ethiopia named King Lalibela. He was inspired and assisted by angels, to found a New Jerusalem that was accessible to his Christian subjects. To consecrate this new Jerusalem, he and his angels carved 12 churches out solid blocks of stone. These churches still exist today. Here is a picture of one of the churches that I found on Claudia’s travel blog:

Jerusalem was founded by King David to be a place where God could dwell. We human beings are always creating New Jerusalems and inviting God to bless these Jerusalems where we dwell, where we worship, where our hearts and our inmost longings are developed and protected. Little altars everywhere.

May we never cease from wondering how we might best respond to this God of ours who has chosen to dwell with us and is always on the lookout for an invitation from us to join us in the innermost sanctum of our hearts.

Faithfully yours,

Rebecca
