Confirmation is also called the “Affirmation of Baptism” in Lutheran circles. It is an opportunity for middle school students to affirm for themselves the promises that their parents, sponsors and congregation made for them at their baptism. Confirmation takes place over a number of months and includes meetings with the pastor and other youth, as well as studying and much conversation. During the confirmation process, youth learn about the key components of the faith and church life with the end goal that they can make their own promise of a life with Christ, affirm their baptisms, and continue to live out their faith in the church.
At Zion we use the “Confirm not Conform” curriculum and offer confirmation classes on an as needed basis in partnership with Episcopal Church of St. Anne’s. This partnership allows for a fuller and more diverse experience for the confirmands.
